A Travesty.

Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." With prior passage by the Senate, the President will sign the bill into law on this July 4th holiday weekend. The Orwellian name of the bill would almost be funny if it's impacts on the poor were not so grotesque. Most of those adversely affected by this bill, in absolute numbers, will be poor, rural white people. But because of our ongoing legacy of racial oppression, we also know that higher proportions of people of color will suffer the loss of healthcare and food assistance.


In the face of this moral scandal, I'm reminded of the words of a wise friend who is a veteran of many legislative battles in Washington, D.C. She counsels, "If you don't like the policy, change the policy makers." It's advice to take to heart.
